Player ratings:

Marc-Andre ter Stegen: 8/10

The Zamora Trophy winner for 2022-23 was officially named man of the match. He made an outstanding save from Rodrygo’s free kick in the first half. Vinicius missed the penalty, though it hit the crossbar. Madrid hit the woodwork five times that night. In addition, he controlled his area as well, and his ball distribution was fantastic too.

Ronald Araujo: 6/10

As good as he is, RB is not his best spot. He left a lot of space for Vini Jr to run into, which was always dangerous. Although his ball distribution was good, and some of his cross-field balls started Barca attacks. Gave away an easy penalty due to handball. Overall, not a great game.

Jules Kounde: 7/10

He did a great job blocking three important shots and conceded a few needless fouls. Positionally, he was good, and his ball distributions were ok. Overall, good defensive performance.

Andreas Christensen: 6/10

Eric Garcia replaced him before the half-hour mark due to some discomfort. He started well, played deep to counter the speed of the rivals and was always comfortable on the ball.

Alejandro Balde: 8/10

We didn’t see a lot of end product from the one, who was willing to bring some pace into the attack, but we did see a lot of intent. Carvajal wasn’t pleased with Balde racing at him at all. Another strong performance in his comeback from injury.

Eric Garcia: 7/10

He came on early as a forced substitute in the first half and did a good job. He needs more performances like this to boost his confidence.

Sergino Dest: 4/10

He got Vini Jr against him, and it was a complete mismatch. Vini glided past him like he wasn’t even there.

Marcos Alonso: 5/10

He went unnoticed and did not affect the game.

Oriol Romeu: 7/10

A much better game for him compared to the last one against Arsenal. He got the ball more and looked confident in the link-up play. He showed off his strength by winning the ball back on several occasions.

Frenkie de Jong: 8/10

He played well. He was always in the right place at the right time. He controlled the tempo throughout and recovered many balls.

Ilkay Gundogan: 5/10

A subdued game by his standards, he struggled to link the midfield with the attack. Sergi Roberto replaced him just before half-time due to an apparent groin injury.

Pedri Gonzalez: 7/10

He struggled to get on the same page as Dembele at times despite setting him up for his goal. He was as tidy on the ball as you expect him to be. He rarely lost the ball but did not create as much as you would have liked him to. A quiet game from his standard.

Sergi Roberto: 7/10

As a midfielder, he displayed decent ball control and even assisted in the Fermin Lopez goal. However, his defensive awareness was lacking at times. Regardless, it was a good game.

Fermin Lopez: 8/10

He scored an absolute stunner to beat Courtois from outside the box and then registered an assist from a beautiful pass to Ferran Torres.

Ousmane Dembele: 8/10

He scored a well-worked goal in the first half and was a constant threat down the right-hand side. He missed a golden chance to put Barca up 2-0 in the first half with a 1-v-1 with Courtois. He showed that he is a differential player and why Barca should do everything they can to keep him amidst PSG’s interest.

Robert Lewandowski: 5/10

He was a complete nuisance throughout the game. He made several intelligent runs, then wasted. He shot twice at the goal, but none on the target. He didn’t have a sight of goal for the second game in a row, far from his best.

Raphinha: 6/10

When he came on as a substitute, he didn’t do much other than create a couple of chances.

Ansu Fati: 5/10

He merely had a few minutes on the field and barely touched the ball.

Ferran Torres: 7/10

He scored a beautiful goal in the dying minutes to put the game to bed. A decent few minutes for him in this game and back-to-back goals will boost his confidence.

Ez Abde: 5/10

He only played for a few minutes and barely touched the ball.

Xavi Hernandez: 8/10

A much better game from the manager compared to the previous one. He introduced substitutes to win the match, not just distributing equal minutes.
